SFU launches $250-million 50th anniversary campaign

Simon Fraser University launches its 50th anniversary fundraising campaign, The Power of Engagement, today with a celebration at its iconic Burnaby campus.

The $250-million campaign supports initiatives that will help shape SFU’s next 50 years as The Engaged University:

·      Scholarships, bursaries, awards, programs, and facilities that will ensure students get the most from their SFU experience

·      Research chairs, professorships and centres that will attract leading researchers and educators to British Columbia

·      Programs and initiatives that will strengthen SFU’s engagement with communities

“Philanthropy has propelled SFU over the past 50 years. Our downtown campus was built through philanthropy, and many of our education, research and community initiatives have been energized by the passion and leadership of our supporters,” says SFU President Andrew Petter. “This campaign will enable donors to harness our power of engagement, so together we can make a positive difference to the lives of young people and the communities we serve.”  

A private downtown Vancouver campaign launch event for donors is planned for Sept. 10 at SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts.

Simon Fraser University is Canada's top-ranked comprehensive university and recently rated among the top 50 universities in the world under 50 years old. With campuses in Vancouver, Burnaby and Surrey, B.C., SFU engages actively with the community in its education and research, delivers almost 150 programs to more than 30,000 students, and has more than 120,000 alumni in 130 countries.
