SFU to honour four outstanding alumni
Tickets are now available for Simon Fraser University’s 2012 Outstanding Alumni Awards event to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver.
The four recipients include an influential figure in global financial regulation, a visionary in higher learning for all Indigenous peoples, an award-winning lawyer, author and filmmaker, and an internationally renowned cancer epidemiologist. The evening’s master of ceremonies will be Breakfast Television co-host Riaz Meghji, who is also an SFU alum.
This year’s outstanding alumni recipients are:
- Dr. Svein Andresen, BA ’81 (economics), MA ’84 (economics) – Public Service (Switzerland)
- Dr. Jo-ann Archibald, MEd ’84, PhD ‘97 – Academic Achievement (Vancouver)
- Mr. Joel Bakan, BA ’81 (Psychology) – Professional Achievement (Vancouver)
- Dr. John Spinelli, BSc ’79, MSc ’81, PhD ’94 (Math & Stats) – Academic Achievement (Vancouver)
SFU alumni, faculty, staff, students, and community members submitted nominations in seven categories: academic achievement, arts and culture, athletics, professional achievement, public service, service to the community and service to the university.
