MEDIA ADVISORY: Former prime minister receives honorary degree

The Right Honourable Kim Campbell served as Canada’s 19th and first female prime minister in 1993. She will receive an honorary degree from Simon Fraser University today.

Among her previous cabinet portfolios, Campbell was Canada’s first female justice minister and attorney general and the first female defence minister of a NATO country. She has since been highly engaged in academia, international relations and women’s issues. Campbell is a founding member of the Club of Madrid, an organization of former heads of government and state working to promote democracy, and a member and chair emerita of the Council of Women World Leaders.
