All BC residents are eligible for H1N1 vaccine free of charge with an MSP card (i.e. CareCard).  Seasonal flu vaccine is available free of charge to those who meet public health criteria or $20 to those who do not meet the criteria and choose to receive it.   See http://www.immunizebc.ca/ImmVacPrevDis/influenza.htm for more detail.  Pregnant women should discuss the vaccine and risks with their family doctor and will require a doctor’s note for the SFU clinics.  Please remember to bring your Care Card with you to any SFU clinic.

Public health will be holding mass flu clinics right across the street from SFU Surrey.  Public Health mentioned that the crowds are large at the beginning of each clinic and suggested that people may want to show up a couple hours later.  Please verify these times with Fraser Health Authority (http://www.fraserhealth.ca) before attending.

SFU Health and Counselling Services has received a limited supply of H1N1 vaccine for students, faculty and staff who are: 

•  pregnant with a doctor’s note or 
•  all ages with chronic health conditions or 
•  are the household contacts of infants under 6 months or the immune compromised or 
•  between the ages of 6 months and 18 years old.
•  emergency first responders (firefighters, police officers) 
•  living in remote or isolated communities
•  a member of an Aboriginal community

SFU students, faculty and staff who fall into Phase 2 HIGH RISK group can get vaccinated for both H1N1 flu and seasonal flu at the Burnaby campus, Nov. 12, and 13 from 1:30pm-4pm at Health and Counselling Services, in the Maggie Benston Centre, Room MBC 0101.  

It is only available through drop-in during those times while supplies last – we are not taking flu vaccine appointments – but please note daily vaccines are limited.  Please bring your CareCard.

The HIGH RISK group is determined by Public Health and includes:

• pregnant women
• people under age of 65 with chronic health conditions
• members of the Aboriginal community
• children 6 months to 5 years old
• people who work in health care
• people who are in contact at home or through home care services with infants and people who have compromised immune systems

We will offer the vaccine until supplies last and will post here when they are gone.  Please note people have been lining up.  At 1:30 we will be handing out numbered tickets to the predicted number of people we are able to serve that day (which depends on nurse availability).   It is on a first come first serve basis daily and we are not able to predict when people need to begin to line-up.  Unfortunately we have not been able to serve everyone who visits.
