5 tips for enjoying your summer at SFU Vancouver
By Maika Nguyen
1. Ride your bike to class
Beat the traffic, and ride your bike to catch the breeze on a hot day. SFU Vancouver has bike lock stations at each of our buildings, and you can borrow a lock from Security at Harbour Centre if you forget one.
No bike? No problem. There are many bike rentals shops in Downtown Vancouver as well as bike share programs.
2. Enjoy your lunch outside
Didn’t have time to pack a lunch? Discover your lunch options on wheels. There are always plenty of food trucks around campus. Looking for a specific food truck? You can download this handy guide to find one near you.
If you remembered your lunch, there are also many parks and outdoor spaces to eat in Downtown Vancouver, including The Perch at Lot 19 which hosts summer programming couresty of the DVBIA.
3. Free summer events
From fireworks to parades, the good weather always brings great events to Vancouver. Many of these events are free, or offer student pricing options.
The City of Vancouver also provides a calendar for some of these events online.
4. Eat local
Summer is arguably the best time to eat fresh produce. From sweet corn to fresh berries, the Vancouver Farmer’s Market has it all. The Downtown Farmers Market has also moved even closer to the SFU Vancouver campus at Harbour Centre, which makes for a perfect lunch time activity.

5. Spend the afternoon at an art gallery
Escape the summer heat and spend an afternoon at one of Vancouver’s many art galleries. SFU alone has three galleries within the city of Vancouver: the Teck Gallery, the Bill Reid Gallery, and the Audian Gallery.
If you feel like heading outside, think about checking out the Main Street Murals. These hidden gems are the perfect way to explore pathways you’ve never seen before in Vancouver.
Many art galleries including the Vancouver Art Gallery offer student pricing, making your cultural exploration that much more affordable.
