ABOUT THIS SERVICE

SFU VAULT LICENSING CHANGES

SFU Vault’s support license changed on January 31, 2022. After this date, IT Services will move ahead with the introduction of OneDrive and MS Teams as the preferred choices for file collaboration and storage within the university.

IT Services will fully support SFU Vault during the transition to OneDrive and MS Teams; however, IT Services will no longer be able to increase your storage limit.

As we prepare to replace SFU Vault, we will provide advanced notice and support for those who need help moving to alternative solutions.

For more information, and steps on how to migrate files from SFU Vault, visit the page on SFU Vault migration.

SFU'S Cloud Storage System

SFU vault provides easy file sharing between teams or individual users to assist in the various projects undertaken by university members and to foster collaboration from external access points. You only need internet connectivity to manage files in the cloud storage system.

All SFU files uploaded into the system will be protected under the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), which alleviates any risk of storing sensitive information within US-based cloud storage providers such as Dropbox, Google Drive.

BACKUPS AND RESTORES IN SFU VAULT

SFU Vault is a multi-device, cloud file synchronization service, but it is not a replacement for good backups.

If you or your device makes destructive changes to files, those destructive changes may also be synchronized. In many cases, SFU Vault's file versioning and access to recently deleted files may be able to help recover accidentally "lost" or damaged files; however, the ability to recover files is limited by the amount of space free in your personal SFU Vault quota and other factors.

SFU Vault enables storage of and access to files in the cloud across devices. While synchronizing your files to multiple devices may provide additional resiliency in some circumstances (hard drive failure on one machine, for example), not all cases of file loss can be addressed by file synchronization. For that reason, we do not recommend that SFU Vault be used as your only method of keeping your data safe.
