In support of its strategic priorities of curriculum development and renewal, academic planning and academic infrastructure, the Office of the Vice-President, Academic is engaged in a number of academic initiatives.

Faculty Structure Implementation       

Great Northern Way Campus
 - In conjunction with three other Vancouver area post secondary institutions, an exploration of the development of a collaborative campus in downtown Vancouver on the Great Northern Way lands. View the historical development of the Great Northern Way Campus.

Student Information Management System - The implementation of a new Student Information Management System.

Student Learning Commons - SFU has established an academic learning centre connected to, and in support of, the ongoing curriculum project.  The Learning Commons has a mandate to assist and support students in their academic pursuits and to provide learning support services across the three SFU campuses.  It is structured to ensure academic input and connections, and collaborative linkages with other student services.  The Learning Commons opened officially in September 2006 in the Bennett library, and will expand eventually to other SFU Library sites.

Undergraduate Curriculum Requirements - A plan to introduce writing, quantitative and breadth requirements for all SFU undergraduate degree programs.

Vice-President, Academic Jon Driver is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gordon Myers as Associate Vice-President, Academic for a 5-year term, beginning September 1, 2012.
