“Things alter for the worse spontaneously, if they be not altered for the better designedly,” as Sir Francis Bacon, the great English philosopher and champion of modern science once wrote. And throughout SFU, people are taking those words to heart. This fifth edition of ViewPointAcademic, a newsletter produced by the Vice-President Academic’s office, looks at some of the ways faculty and staff members, after several years of research and consultation, are now changing quickly and decisively to introduce better ways of teaching and learning. People like Anders Knudby (above, kneeling) who uses helicopter drones to make the study of remote sensing more understandable and enjoyable for his geography students.
