Outstanding Organic Chemist
Vice-President, Research and Professor of Chemistry B. Mario Pinto is the recipient of the 2012 R.U. Lemieux Award for research in organic chemistry.
From the CSC news release:
His outstanding contributions over three decades in synthesis, conformational analysis, NMR and molecular modeling protocols have earned him a place among Canada’s leading chemical biologists. The results of his research have potential applications for the control or treatment of bacterial and viral diseases, Type 2 diabetes, and cancer.
Pinto is one of the founding members of the Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD), and has served as chair of the CSC conference in 1998, president of the International Carbohydrate Organization in 2006, CSC vice-president in 2010, and CSC president in 2011. He has served on several NSERC, CIHR, and provincial and federal committees, and on several boards of directors.
