SFU associate professor Peter Anderson will be appointed this fall to the Order of British Columbia, the province’s highest recognition of excellence and lifetime achievement.

One of Canada's top communications experts, Anderson's advice has been instrumental in numerous provincial, regional and national public safety and disaster reduction initiatives. He is also an accessible advisor to local organizations and communities and a frequent media commentator.

Whether deploying SFU's advanced emergency communications vehicle for backup support where needed, assisting in search and rescue operations, or working with coastal communities on tsunami warning and disaster prevention and mitigation, he actively applies his technical knowledge for the safety and security of British Columbians.

He continues to work with government, academia, NGOs and industry to enable the development, early adoption and efficient sharing of emerging communication systems and resources. He also lends his expertise to foreign governments and is involved in a number of major collaborative projects, including the application of novel communication technologies to space exploration.
