Dr. Robert Hogg

April 04, 2013

Dr. Robert Hogg of the SFU Faculty of Health Sciences is the 2013 recipient of the 2013 Paz Buttedahl Career Achievement Award from the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of BC (CUFA BC).

The CUFA BC Career Achievement Award recognizes "sustained contributions over the course of a career to the non-academic community through research and scholarly activity." In his news release, Dr. Richard Kool, President of CUFA BC remarked, "Dr. Hogg's commitment to vulnerable and marginalized populations is a perfect example of why we need publicly-funded research."

Dr. Hogg conducts epidemiological research into the natural history of HIV disease and its interaction with behavioural and socio-demographic factors. He has collaborated on a number of national and international projects to investigate vulnerable populations and their barriers to accessing care. This includes leading the CIHR-funded Canadian Observational Cohort (CANOC) collaboration, Canada's first integrated network of all registered HIV/AIDS treatment information that is providing insight into the efficacy of antiretroviral drugs.

The body of research that Dr. Hogg has developed over his 20-year career has prompted changes to HIV prevention and treatment efforts in Canada and beyond. The CUFA BC Award adds to the significant recognition that Dr. Hogg has received from his peers as well as the HIV+ community.
