The Centre was approved by the Board of Governors on September 20, 2007, some of the Centre's main objectives are to: Inform public policy regarding pathways to violent behavior and provide public policy recommendations or the effective allocation of limited resources; Establish training of professionals in effective and evidence-based interventions for youth and families in collaboration with key stakeholders including schools, law enforcement, community groups, provincial and federal government ministries and other organizations; Integrate basic scientific research on risk and protective factors for violence from across Canada and abroad; Attract other researches and funding to this important issue; Develop greater research capacity at SFU and increase its dissemination through publications of scientific research papers and monographs Demonstrate the social and economic benefits of these strategies. Strengthen the knowledge economy by hosting international conferences on youth violence.
