Curriculum Vitae: Andrew J. Calvert

EDUCATION:

Ph.D. Geophysics (Cambridge University, 1981-1985)

B.A. Mathematics (Oxford University, 1978-1981)

CAREER SUMMARY:

Simon Fraser University (Burnaby, Canada: 1998-present)

Seismologist within the Dept. of Earth Sciences responsible for development and teaching of geophysics courses to geologists enrolled in undergraduate program. Graduate research program to identify hazardous shallow crustal faults in Pacific Northwest, to map the structures associated with megathrust plate boundary, and to understand the origin of local earthquakes. Continuing research in Archean tectonics using deep seismic reflection surveys.

Stanford University (Stanford, U.S.A.: 2004-2005)

Sabbatical Visiting Professor working on seismic reflection and refraction survey to constrain evolution of Marianas active volcanic arc.

PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd. (Calgary, Canada: 1997-1998)

Exploration geophysicist specialising in use of 3-D seismic surveys for the definition of hydrocarbon reservoirs in the post–Devonian stratigraphy of southern Alberta.

Ecole Polytechnique (Montréal, Canada: 1993-1997)

Research Fellow responsible for research and teaching in applied seismology. Projects involved the exploration of hard-rock mining camps, acquisition (western Québec), processing and interpretation of deep crustal seismic surveys, and the development of new seismic migration, and modeling software.

Schlumberger (Port Gentil, Gabon: 1990-1992; Algiers, Algeria: 1993)

District Geophysicist, first for Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroun and Gabon, and later for Algeria. Responsible for design, processing and interpretation of 3-component borehole seismic surveys, and their correlation with borehole logs and surface seismic surveys.

University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada: 1987-1990)

Izaac Walton Killam Memorial Postdoctoral Fellow. Acquisition of crustal reflection and refraction data (Beaufort Sea and onshore/offshore western Canada). Interpretation of offshore reflection profiles. Development of seismic applications for multiple suppression, high resolution velocity estimation, and amplitude (AVO) analysis.

Western Geophysical (London, U.K.: 1985-1987)

Research geophysicist working on development of seismic data processing algorithms; technical and software support to data processing groups. 3-D seismic data processing. Seismic applications programming.
