8th WCDM http://www.wcdm.org/
In the coming months, you will no doubt get REAL tired hearing from me
about the 8th World Conference on Disaster Management June 14-17, 1998
in Hamilton, Ontario. New web site: http://www.wcdm.org/
To be brief - it is simply the BEST program we have ever developed.
In their 2nd year as co-chairs, Marg Verbeek and Dave Johnson have gone
overboard (for those of you who know Marg, you know what I mean - for
those of you who know Dave - well, it's kinda hard to imagine but true!)
to create a thoughtful, balanced and DYNAMIC program featuring the BEST
in business continuity, emergency management, and emergency health care
topics of ANY conference this year!
Of course, Mother Nature helped out in suggesting some items.
ICE STORM'98 offered a wealth of material to choose from:
- Business Continuity (Bell Canada, Hydro Quebec, and Scotiabank share
their front-line perspectives)
- Emergency Response (fires in a frozen wasteland, Red Cross relief,
Canadian military 'Operation Recuperation')
- and Emergency Health Care (urban and rural experiences, emergency
services and long term care facilities)
- plus the amazing amount of coordination and cooperation among
governments, business sector, non-profit agencies and private citizens
- and much, much more!
Plenary topics include:
- Scotland Yard with the planning for the funeral service for Diana,
Princess of Wales
- senior Ontario and Quebec governments officials offering perspectives
on Ice Storm'98
- a look back at last year's Red River flood from the American point of
view
- insights into the enormous Plastimet Fire in Hamilton
- and a major landslide in Thredbo, Australia which proves that miracles
do still happen.
In all, 54 sessions over 3 full days are being presented as part of this
year's offering. You are invited to take a look at the whole program by
visiting the brand new web site at http://www.wcdm.org/
While you are there - take advantage of the $ 100 Early Bird discount
and register on-line. You'll receive the next issue of CCEP NEWS (plus
3 more over the next year) for free if you do!
