Profile

Jasmina Arifovic is a professor and the associate chair in the department of economics at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. She received a B.A. in economics from the University of Sarajevo in 1981 and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago in 1991. Her previous academic positions include assistant professor at McGill University from 1990 to 1993 and assistant professor at Simon Fraser University from 1993 to 1997.

Dr. Arifovic's work includes—but is not limited to—evolutionary models of personal beliefs, computational design, currency crises, financial markets and exchange rates dynamics. She uses laboratory experiments in several fields of economics, models of learning in various trading institutions and mechanisms for providing public goods. She has pioneered techniques in computational modeling and uses her work to provide explanations for real world phenomenon that traditional models have been unable to explain.
