JIM BIZZOCCHI

A central theme of my research and creation program is the Future of the Moving Image. Both as a scholar and as an artist, I am fascinated by the role technology can play in supporting new directions in cinematic poetics. I examine and analyze the creative affordances of technological advances such as large video displays, improved resolution and dynamic range imagery, stereoscopic cinema, and virtual reality. My most focused current work has been in two specific directions: ambient video and generative media.

Ambient Video has been an ongoing interest of mine for a long time, and remains an important genre for me. This website focuses on my research and creation work in video and generative art.

More recently, I have begun to work in computationally generative media, both on my own artworks, and with my colleagues in the Generative Media Project. This website highlights my research with colleagues at Simon Fraser University and others.
