SFU CABS Semester Report, Winter 2004

  • Envision 2004 Conference held at SFU, supported by the SFU CABS.

  • The semester started out especially strong due to a desire to be united in planning efforts and activity support, also because of planning from the Summer semester. Interfaith Dialogues on the topics, "Religious Values in the Education System" and "The Meaning of Prayer" were a success, both well supported by the MSA and the CABS, with presentation by Lara and Rus. As a result of contacts through interfaith efforts, Minoo Greenall was invited to speak at a forum on "Life After Death" organized by Campus Crusade for Christ.

  • A Ruhi Book 3 was started facilitated by Fod (now nearly complete), and we re-commenced the "Spaghetti Nights" meeting at least every other Thursday, which were a much enjoyed time to socialize, and break the fast when it came. One such evening we were graced by the presence of Jonathan Sargeant for a story about the Faith, and another by Shohleh, to help us understand the guidance Bahá'ís have about interaction with Muslims: we believe in the Qur'án and must understand and defend Islam especially in these difficult times, but must not seek them out for the purpose of teaching because of the consequent danger to the persecuted Bahá'ís in the East.

  • One of our biggest foci all semester was the a booth set up by the CABS during Ayami-ha, which also taught about the fast, and provided people with an opportunity to attend a lecture by Dr. Jonathan Agnew, "World Peace...is it attainable?"

  • For the first time Persian was offered at SFU in this semester.
