The Shanghai Theatre is a renovation project that Neri + Hu took on in October 2012. The project replaced a previous theatre that had been renovated multiple times, and had lost much of its design identity.This project is primarily based around light and space, and how those two elements can be used to refresh the viewer. The space is wide and clear, with fluted walls that emulate the drape of a theatre curtain. These work in the same way a cluster would, creating a textural difference from the solid grey of the stone floor and ceiling.
