Statement of Intent:
The piece will be a large painting (approx 8' x 3'). Foreboding clouds and the ominous, violent shapes of 'those that monitor' reach across the canvas to entrap the hapless participants. The piece will convey angst, dread, fear and perhaps even hopelessness-- all of which are prudent emotions, as we willfully surrender our freedoms to those that watch, record, collect.
Artist Bio:
As an IT professional and self-confessed "techno geek", Dana is acutely aware (and weary) of the role that technology plays in our lives and this societal malaise is often revealed in his work. He was challenged in the early 1990s by University of Alberta Art professor, Graham Peacock, to explore new methods of visual expression. Upon arriving in Vancouver and after spending time in Haida Gwaii, he became enthralled with and influenced by Haida and Northwest Coast art.
