TERMINOLOGY

  1. NMR: nuclear magnetic resonance.
  2. Bruker600 MHz Spectrometer
  3. HDL: high density lipoprotein
  4. LDL: low density lipoprotein
  5. VLDL: very low density lipoprotein
The human serum lipoproteins (points 3, 4 and 5) are complexes for the transport of cholesterol and triglycerides from the liver, and to a lesser extent from the large intestine, to peripheral tissue. HDL is inversely, and LDL directly, correlated with the risk of coronary heart disease.
  6. LCAT: Lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase (enzyme)
  7. LPL: Lipoprotein lipase (enzyme)
  8. apoA-I: apolipoprotein A-I
  9. apoC-I: apolipoprotein C-I
  10. apoC-II: apolipoprotein C-II
  11. [15N,13C] Labels
  12. NOESY: nuclear Overhauser enhanced spectroscopy
