"Ruination" is a 3D side scrolling platformer built from the UDK game engine. The game was built over 3 months for the Advance Game Design course at SFU in Surrey, B.C.
Narrative Overview
After being taken prisoner during a recent war with an alien race, an outpost was set up on a remote planet. The aliens, known as Gurads, began mining operations and constructed a prison to detain their P.O.W's. After an emergency evacuation was ordered, the prisoners were left to die and must now work together to reach the surface and escape the crumbling planet by finding fuel cells to power a broken ship.
Goal
Create a full video game over the course of the Spring Term (3 months).
Task
Project leader and lead Game Designer. Assigned tasks to group, set deadlines, communicated with each team member to ensure progress and attain realist goals. Built the game using UDK. Developed the puzzles and environments, wrote story for our game world, created the cut-scenes and wrote dialog.
Outcome
Won a "Certificate of Excellence in Game Design" presented by our instructor for placing first place for our course's end of term showcase where 12 teams were judged by members of the game industry, including representative from EA and Radical.
Additionally my team won an award under the category of Digital Application at the SIAT 2013 Showcase Competition.
