Nier Automata A2 Character Model

Character & Environment Modeling/Texturing

'Nier Automata' has been my all time favorite game due to its memorable character and the intriguing story related to humanity. Since I haven't done many female characters for Zbrush, I decided to make A2 (one of the lead character within the game) for this project. This project mainly focuses on improving human anatomy, stylized character design, and general clothing/details.

Different to many other projects, for A2, I started by creating the general shape of the body. This includes looking through many references to the human bodies. After having a base shape done, I started by sculpting her body first instead of the head. I was able to utilize many new brushes such as smooth valley and typology brush. As for her top, I extracted part of her body and create a new subtool in order to create the volume that clothing has. To conclude the body, I added some folds and details to make them feel more realistic.

The face was quite a challenge for A2. I started wanting to create something that is more identical towards the original game. However, as I was researching, I fell in love with artist Dmytro Bajda's cartoon style. I decided to shift more towards a stylized character instead of the original version. I used mainly curve tool to create her hair. Lastly, I used polypaint to create the texture.

To conclude the project, I pose the character with the simple move and rotate tool within Zbrush. I create 2 iconic swords that she weild within the game using Maya and imported them into Zbrush. Overall, I really enjoyed making this model as it really helps me learn more about human anatomy and just modeling pipeline in general. This whole project took me around 3 days.
