About
I recently completed my Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia under the direction of Dr. Greg Martin. A complete list of my academic travels can be found in my CV.
Teaching
In Spring 2012 I taught Math 105, Section 211.
Research
I'm primarily interested in analytic number theory of a combinatorial flavour. I am currently working on applying the powerful methods of Green and Tao to count arithmetic progressions in the sums of two squares (and other sets of number-theoretic interest). I have also done some work in Diophantine approximation and, more recently, random integer matrices. See my research statement for more details.
Below are preprint versions of most of my papers:
- Runs and gaps in integers of the form x2+ky2, with Moshe Rosenfeld, in preparation.
- Arithmetic progressions of sums of two squares, in preparation.
- Basis reduction and the complexity of branch-and-bound, with Gábor Pataki and Mustafa Tural, Proceedings of the Twenty-First Annual ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms (January 2010), ed. Moses Charikar, 1254–1261.
- Almost all integer matrices have no integer eigenvalues, with Greg Martin, Amer. Math. Monthly 116 (2009), no. 7, 588–597.
- The number of 2 × 2 integer matrices having a prescribed integer eigenvalue, with Greg Martin, Algebra & Number Theory 2 (2008), no. 8, 979–1000.
- Simultaneous approximation of reals by values of arithmetic functions, Anatomy of Integers (proceedings of CRM Workshop on Anatomy of Integers, March 2006), ed. Jean-Marie De Koninck, Andrew Granville, and Florian Luca, CRM Proceedings & Lecture Notes 46 (2008), 289–297.
- Tight instances of the Lonely Runner, with Luis Goddyn, INTEGERS: Elec. J. Comb. Num. Theory 6 (2006), #A38, 14pp (electronic).
- A survey of results relating to Giuga's conjecture on primality, with Jonathan M. Borwein, Advances in Mathematical Sciences: CRM's 25 Years (proceedings of the 25th Anniversary Conference of the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques, 1994), ed. Luc Vinet, CRM Proceedings & Lecture Notes 11 (1997), 13–27.
