Various physical attributes of sound can be quantified and measured to give us an empirical differentiation of different sounds.

Each sonic parameter has a typical range related to the human range of hearing and a corresponding unit of measurement.

Frequency is usually measured in cycles per second and notated in Hertz (Hz).
