COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is an introduction to so-called “Standard First Order Logic”, which includes the formal logic of truth functions, predicates, quantifiers over objects, and identity. There will be an emphasis on the uses of such logic to model or represent aspects of natural language deductive reasoning.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
· Homework assignments: 4 X 5% ea = 20%
· First in-class midterm: = 15%
· Second in-class midterm: = 25%
· Final Exam: = 40%
Note: Philosophy 110 has no prerequisites, and may be applied to the Q-requirement.
