Re: Zimbra 7 - anyone migrated?

The zmconfigd bug (http://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=60951) still persists even after 7.1.1p2 although now it is this one: http://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=60743.  The workarounds mentioned haven't made it disappear for us yet, so the safest bet is still disabling zmconfigd's ability to restart things automatically (as mentioned in the 60951 comments).

An additional cosmetic bug we've seen:

If you add attendees in the free/busy lookup section within the scheduler interface of the new appointment dialog. attendee names start getting duplicated as they get added to the field at the top.  Invitations are only sent once, however.

Other weirdness:

-extra chatty activity from ZD clients against the server (lots of GetDistributionListMembersRequests even if the desktop is running in the background).  I haven't seen performance problems from this yet, but it's something to be aware of if you have a larger number of ZD users.

-ZCO 7.x seems to have problems when installed on a client PC with no previous version of the connector (galsync crashes, sync stalling, new messages not delivered until after the web client is checked, etc.).  Upgrades from any previous 6.x ZCO appear to be OK.

We only have about 160 accounts hitting this server (and it's generously built VM-wise) so we may not be a great stress test example, but I would say it performs better on average than 6.x did during normal operations (load seems to be a little lower, especially w/ mysql).  It also took us about 2 hrs to run the post-upgrade optimization script against mysql (load-wise, I would still recommend this off-hours).

Hi,

Just wanted to ask for an update on potential issues found with Zimbra 7.1.1   I haven't found anything of note other than some slowness on some logins and starting a new email, etc.   I have attributed that to the test system I am using which has only 1 processor and 1gb of ram.   Though in full disclosure I have seen that in our production 5.0.24 system at times.

One that is cosmetic is that when you deactivate the "Recover Deleted Items" (dumpster) feature its icon still shows up under the trash can.   Based on what I read this icon should appear/disappear based on your settings for that CoS.   We have elected not to include that feature at this time and would rather not have to field calls on what does that icon do and that it is not working.   For a temporary fix I just relabeled the icon to "Disabled Feature".

Thanks,
Steve

We've also had a number of users report that using Zimbra 7.1.1 with Internet Explorer are experiencing slowness and/or hangs.

Has anyone else noticed this? I didn't see anything in bugzilla about it. Does anyone know of a bugzilla entry for this?

We upgraded to 7.1.1 this past weekend as well. So far all of the responses from users has been positive. There are definitely some quirks in it though. In addition to what Paul said...

Cannot select white or black as a tag color.
https://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=60892

The new options in appointments with attendees, to "SEND" or "SAVE", has confused a couple people. They wondered why attendees weren't notified when they saved the appointment (they have to click send).

We've had resources go missing. If we create a new appointment, click the Resources link, and then try to find a resource using the auto-complete feature....it does not get found. This worked fine on Monday....but not yesterday or today. Could be a GALSync issue, but we're not sure yet. The resource still exists, we can still type the entire address in to select it for the appointment.

We've had our primary LDAP server go unresponsive for a minute or two....and so all the mailboxes become unresponsive obviously. We haven't tracked down the cause yet, but it's happened 2 or 3 times since we upgraded on Friday night. This is a little worrying since we're in a very low usage time with it being summer. Hopefully we can figure out the cause for this and

That's where we're at so far.

Replying to my own message to share our post-upgrade (7.1.1) experiences so far. We upgraded this past Friday and most things have gone smoothly. The issues we have had have been 'quirky' more than major (as with the 5.x->6.x upgrade was).

    • Many users had to disable and reenable their signature after the upgrade (for replies & forwards). The signature shows as active in the preferences, but does not show. Changing to 'No signature', saving, then back to their default signature and saving again fixes the issue.
    • We've had reports that people who had their vacation message enabled had to disable/enable it again as well.
    • Some IE users report increased slowness. People using Firefox (which we recommend anyway) haven't had any issues.
    • Bugzilla report: Hitting enter in compose causes cursor to drop below signature (Chrome - Windows only)
    • Accessing the Address book via the To/Cc/Bcc buttons in the compose window (when composing in a new window) shows all addresses cut off on the left. The "Select Addresses" window is not positioned correctly. Work arounds are turning off 'always compose in new window', or maximizing the compose window before clicking To/Cc/Bcc buttons to choose addresses

Hello all,

Has anyone yet migrated from Zimbra 6.x to 7.x? If so, would you recommend others do the same? Are there any major issues you or your users are having?

We were bit here by migrating to 6.0.5 (with all its auto complete bugs) and are very hesitant about jumping in if there are any major issues. I've done a good deal of testing on a 7.1 test system along with some of my staff, but there are always things that don't come up in small scale testing that come up in a production launch.

Thanks for any info those who have already migrated can provide.
