I would advise sticking with the 7.1.1 base for now as recent patches have been released for it that contain some fixes that didn't make it into 7.1.2.  There's one notable fix in 7.1.2 though for mail clusters that don't utilize zimbra proxy and that require heavy HTTPS volume direct to the mailstores- if that doesn't describe your Zimbra deployment, I would suggest waiting for 7.1.3.

There are also some performance issues coming out related to the dumpster and large mailbox operations (deletes/restores) which may be worth researching more in bugzilla for institutions that are still considering 7.x or recently moved to it- it may be something to take a 'wait and see' approach on for a while.
