Geog 312:

Geography of Natural Hazards

COURSE OUTLINE
Lectures will examine the occurrence, origin and impact of natural hazards. Topics to be covered include geological hazards (e.g. earthquakes, volcanoes), hydrological hazards (e.g. floods), atmospheric hazards (e.g. blizzards) and biological hazards (e.g. pests, diseases). A lecture schedule and a list of topics for the course project will be available in the first week of class.

Tutorials will examine the socio-cultural environment in which these natural phenomena occur, and will focus on hazard perception and the measures taken to predict, avoid and reduce the impact of these events. Tutorials feature data analysis, role-playing workshops, and video presentations.
