Our research in Burns Bog includes the following studies:
- Characterization of the ‘lagg’ transition zone at the bog edge, looking at the following environmental gradients:
- Hydrology (water table height and fluctuation)
- Hydrochemistry (how water chemistry changes approaching the lagg zone)
- Vegetation (plant communities of the bog and lagg areas, and the vegetation gradient between those two zones)
- Comparison of the characteristics of Burns Bog with other raised bogs in coastal BC
- Development a more detailed understanding of the water balance of open bog and forested bog plant communities. This includes measurements of:
- Rainfall (total precipitation and throughfall)
- Soil moisture
- Water table height
- Evaporation
- Sapflow
