Senior Cardiac Biostatistician



Summary of Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chair in Women’s Cardiovascular Health at Providence Health Care Research Institute, the Senior Cardiac Biostatistician will be responsible for the overall coordination and supervision of all statistical support for the research and academic activities of the Divisions of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Providence Health and Vancouver Acute. This position directs and is responsible for analytical and statistical services, including the planning and development of research funding applications and research projects. This position provides a leadership role in the analysis of study data and overall strategic advice regarding analytic issues. The Senior Cardiac Biostatistician will draw upon the continuous review and assessment of the national and international literature to advise on trends and emerging evidence to guide design and evaluation processes in academic research.


To ensure the success of this position, the Senior Cardiac Biostatistician will become part of an existing, fully functioning academic research team, located in Vancouver BC


A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a PhD in Biostatistics, Health Services Research, or Epidemiology plus a minimum of seven (7) years recent related experience in cardiovascular research. Demonstrated expertise with large datasets is essential.

  • Advanced knowledge of descriptive statistics, statistical inference and statistical modeling
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant database, spreadsheet, statistical and graphical presentation
  • Superior analytical, problem-solving and system analysis skills including the ability to resolve complex issues and synthesize related data/information and present information in concise meaningful ways
  • Ability to direct complex and customized queries and reports
  • Ability to function in a self-directed manner
