Job description

We are seeking a full-time data analyst to support projects involving
diverse types of functional genomic analyses, including DNA- and
protein-binding microarrays, colony arrays, short-read sequencing,
motif searches and motif scans, statistical inference, and other types
of DNA/protein sequence and structure analyses.

Job activities

Responsibilities of the analyst will include the following:

Project-specific analyses using existing statistical and computational
tools and approaches

Development of new computational tools

Assembly and organization of data structures

Maintenance of established data analysis frameworks

Preparation of figures, tables, and descriptions of methods for grants
and papers

Participation in lab meetings and project-specific discussions

Assisting other lab members with data analysis

Supervising co-op and summer students


An MS or PhD degree is required, preferably in Bioinformatics,
Computational Biology, or Molecular Biology, but applicants with
degrees in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, and Engineering will
also be considered.  The candidate will preferably have at least two
years of work experience, or an equivalent combination of education
and experience.  The applicant should have a strong computational
background, combined with a solid understanding of biology and
statistics.  In particular, the applicant must be familiar with the
LINUX/UNIX environment and have a working knowledge of Perl scripting,
relational databases such as MySQL, and statistical analysis software
such as R, S plus and/or Matlab.  The applicant should have experience
with the management, combination, and analysis of large datasets.
Moreover, the applicant must be familiar with genome databases such as
the UCSC, NCBI and Ensembl genome browsers. Experience with biological
toolkits such as BioPerl and Bioconductor, as well as higher level
programming languages (e.g. C, C++, Java) is considered an asset.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational
ability, and initiative are also required.
