Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home of three Nobel laureates, is an
independent, nonprofit research institution dedicated to the development and
advancement of biomedical research to eliminate cancer and other potentially
fatal diseases.  VIDD, the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division, was

*About the Department*

The Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research & Prevention (SCHARP) is part
of the program of Population Sciences within the Vaccine and Infectious
Disease Division (VIDD) of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.  SCHARP
provides statistical collaboration to infectious disease researchers around
the world and conducts a complementary program of statistical methodology,
and mathematical modeling research. SCHARP also collects, manages, and
analyzes data from clinical trials and epidemiological studies dedicated to
the elimination of infectious disease as a threat to human health.

We are seeking a Statistical Research Associate Network Lead to provide
leadership, direction, and management for the day-to-day operations of the
vaccine subsection analytic staff (statistical research associates (SRAs)
and statistical programmers).  The subsection supports multiple HIV/AIDs
research networks and projects, including the HIV Vaccine Trials Network
(HVTN), the Collaboration for AIDS Vaccine Discovery (CAVD), the Center for
HIV-AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI) and the United States Military HIV
Research and Prevention (USMHRP) program.

The subsection analytic staff is responsible for study-related reporting,
statistical data analysis, and manuscript work of clinical or observational
studies and vaccine-related R&D work when SCHARP is the statistical and data
management center; for faculty-directed data analyses in support of related
scientific programs; and for analytical work in support of faculty
biostatistical methodology research.

The SRA Network Lead implements the priorities of the network/project
principal investigator(s) for work efforts of subsection analytic staff in
coordination with lead protocol statisticians and faculty statisticians,
liaisons with other network programs, and ensures the participation of
subsection analytic staff in meeting the goals and objectives of the
Statistical Analytics Section and SCHARP.

The SRA Network Lead reports to the Section Manager of Statistics, works
independently and spends the majority of work time coordinating and
providing statistical leadership to major scientific efforts.

Duties include the following:

1.      Supervising or directing other statistical research
associates/analytic staff and providing technical and organizational
leadership to subsection analytic staff on the research network(s) and
statistical projects. Direct supervision of 5-6 analytic staff and
supervisors assigned to support the subsection, including hiring, training,
time and effort certification approval, performance review, approval of
leave requests and disciplinary or termination actions.  Coordination of
subsection analytic staff efforts for process improvement and

2.      Oversight of analysis activities within the subsection including
assigning resources, providing technical direction and ensuring adherence
and proficiency to section standards.

3.      Serves as a senior level statistician on some individual protocols
or projects

4.      Participates in meetings with external collaborators and study teams
as the representative of SCHARP vaccine analytic subsection.  Understands
the scientific content and issues of the network/external collaborator,
their infrastructure, policies and procedures, and membership
  Minimum Qualifications

Masterís degree in Statistics or Biostatistics required. Minimum 5 years of
statistical experience in the area of medical science and 1-2 years of
personnel management experience. Project management experience including the
ability to organize and track work assignments and flexibility in matching
resources to workload.  Background in statistical computing. Proficiency
with SAS and R/S-plus statistical packages. Proficiency and experience in
developing statistical programs for data analysis and statistical
methodology work. . Experience interacting with outside collaborators such
as lab scientists and clinicians using strong oral and written communication
