Cancer Surveillance - within the Division of Population and Public Health - collects, analyzes and interprets information concerning cancer occurrences, cancer risk factors, and cancer care in Alberta. Reporting to the Manager - Analytic Team, the Senior Surveillance Analyst will work as a key member responsible for analysis, interpretation and reporting of cancer-related data as well as assisting with the development of advances surveillance methodology. Key responsibilities will include:

  • High-level statistical analysis on the Alberta Cancer Registry related to cancer surveillance information (e.g. cancer incidence, mortality, prevalence, survival analyses, projections).
  • Interpretation and reporting to cancer related information.
  • Communication with researchers, health professional, other governmental agencies and the general public in relation to cancer surveillance information.
  • Quality assurance activities to ensure accurate extraction of data, analysis, and interpretation of results.
  • Project leadership in relation to analytical techniques - and interpretation and reporting of the results.
  • Project coordination across relevant departments within Alberta Health Services.
  • Conduct research on advanced surveillance methodology and knowledge translation projects.


  • Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics or Epidemiology.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience dealing with analyzing large population based datasets.
  • Experience using statistical software packages (specifically SAS and R).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and time-management skills.
  • Project management and data management experience would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
