Guy Carpenter Professorship in Agricultural Risk Management and Insurance

The I.H. Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a five-year contingent appointment to the Guy Carpenter Professorship in Agricultural Risk Management and Insurance, in the Warren Centre for Actuarial Studies and Research. The position will be offered at either the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, with a start date of January 1, 2013, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates must have: (1) a PhD specializing in actuarial science, agricultural economics, or a related discipline; (2) interdisciplinary research and teaching interests in actuarial science, risk management, finance, or agricultural economics; (3) demonstrated capacity to conduct research in collaboration with government and industry in the area of agricultural insurance and risk management; and (4) demonstrated teaching excellence. The position requires evidence of a strong research record and the ability to teach courses in the domain of actuarial science or closely related fields.  Duties include research, reduced (half-load) teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervision and collaboration with graduate research students, and professional service for the School, University, and community. The successful applicant will be expected to establish a high-quality research program and liaise with both government and private industry in matters relating to agricultural risk management and insurance and.  Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Research funding is competitive.

The Warren Centre's actuarial program is one of the oldest in North America, with actuarial courses being offered since 1912. Over 700 graduates have become either Associates or Fellows of the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society. Currently, we offer courses at the B. Comm. (Hons.) and the B. Sc. (Hons.) levels, and an MSc Program in Actuarial Mathematics effective September 1, 2013.  The Warren Centre has been recognized as a Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) since 2009, and accredited by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) under its University Accreditation Program since 2011.

The I. H. Asper School of Business is the leading business school in the province of Manitoba and is accredited by AACSB.
