Sessional Lecturer Position in Statistics Education: Part time position

The Department of Statistics at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Campus, invites applications for a sessional lecturer position in the UBC Flexible Learning Initiative (http://flexible.learning.ubc.ca/), a multi-year program designed to encourage flexible and innovative approaches in higher education.

We are currently seeking one individual to work with faculty in the Statistics Department and staff from the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology and the Science Centre for Learning and Teaching to assist in the development of modular on-line and in-class materials suitable for use in any introductory statistics course taught at UBC or any UBC course or lab with an introductory statistics component.  As a part of a larger team, the incumbent will assist in the development of learning objectives, identification of topics for which resources will be developed, identification and classification of existing resources, pedagogical rationale for the need for new resources, and how new and existing resources will be used in the various courses involved (e.g. as homework, pre-class exercises, quizzes, clicker questions). The incumbent will also be responsible for coordinating meetings with faculty and staff from a variety of departments spanning many faculties and tracking progress on the project.

Candidates should have completed their MSc or Ph.D. in Statistics or a related field, with some experience in teaching statistics.  Candidates should have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and a strong personal commitment to improving education within the discipline.  English fluency is also required. Experience in curriculum development, blended or online learning, developing educational resources and activities, and using the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) to inform practice will be considered assets.

The initial appointment is for 8 months, and may be renewable depending on funding and performance. The successful applicant is expected to start no later than Jan 1 2014.
