St. Francis Xavier University intends to nominate an exceptional individual for the Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Bioinformatics.
The CRC in Bioinformatics will be located in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. The Department offers BSc and BA degree programs in Mathematics and in Computer Science, and a MSc program in Computer Science. All faculty are engaged in internationally recognized scholarly work. In addition to leading his/her own original, innovative high quality research program in computational aspects of bioinformatics with expertise in biodiversity, genomics, proteomics or the health sciences, the successful applicant is expected to promote collaborative research recognizing that Bioinformatics deals with a broad spectrum of topics requiring collaboration among computer scientists, statisticians, mathematicians, and researchers in the life and physical sciences. StFX is committed to ensuring productive research involvement of undergraduate and graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. The successful candidate will have the potential to attract excellent students and to mentor future researchers. The Canada Research Chair will be expected to contribute to the teaching program of the Department and will have a reduced teaching load in accordance with the relevant article of the Collective Agreement.
The nomination will be at the Tier 2 level of Canada Research Chair. Tier 2 Chairs, tenable for five years and renewable once, are for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field. As nominees for Tier 2 positions must be emerging scholars, they must normally be within ten years of the date of their Ph.D. at the time of nomination. More information on the CRC program can be found athttp://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca.
This nomination is subject to review and final approval by the CRC Secretariat in Ottawa. Contingent on success of the CRC nomination, the successful applicant will be offered a position at the rank of assistant or associate professor in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. Salary and rank will depend on experience and qualifications.
Consideration of applications will commence May 12th, 2014. Applications must include your curriculum vitae, and a description of your proposed research program with a summary of your experience with mentoring and training. Applicants must also include plans for future training of highly qualified personnel and a teaching statement. The names of three referees must be included with the application.
