The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria invites applications for a Canada Research Chair in Biostatistics anticipated to commence between May 2015 and July 2015.
This position provides an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Statistician with a very strong, innovative research program focused on developing and applying statistical methods to understand large-scale genetic and high throughput biological data.  The successful candidate will find a supportive and intellectually challenging academic environment at the University of Victoria, which is home to the Genome B.C. Proteomics Centre, genomics collaborators in the Departments of Biochemistry and Microbiology, Biology and Computer Science, and research connections with the Deeley Research Centre of the B.C. Cancer Agency Vancouver Island Centre.
Canada Research Chairs (Tier II) are prestigious positions, awarded for five years, renewable once. The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenured or tenure-track faculty position at the University of Victoria, depending on experience.  CRC (Tier II) nominees are expected to be emerging world-class researchers, with the potential to attract and develop excellent trainees.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related discipline. Under the terms of the Canada Research Chair program, candidates may be from new Ph.D.s up to 10 years beyond the doctorate at the time of nomination (February 2015).   Successful applicants will demonstrate excellence or potential for excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching.
