The Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary, seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Biostatistics. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in biostatistics or a closely-related field, a proven record of research excellence in bio-statistical analysis, methodology, model development and computation particularly in complex survival analysis for biomedical and health data with experience in development of advanced methods and computational implementations to analyze data with measurement error and missing data. The successful candidate will also have strong educational interests in developing new undergraduate and graduate courses in biostatistics and statistical learning/machine learning. The candidate will have demonstrated success in obtaining external funding, experience in teaching at the University level, and experience with supervision of research.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary and inter-Faculty team of statisticians, biologists, medical researchers and veterinarian medical researchers studying models and clinical realities of human and animal disease. Peer-reviewed external funding is normally expected to be sustained throughout the appointment, and industrial partnerships are strongly encouraged where appropriate. The position includes both teaching and research responsibilities, and includes expectations to recruit and supervise graduate students. Successful applicants will be enthusiastic about contributing to both teaching and research.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop a vigorous and independent externally-funded research program within a dynamic and collaborative environment. A competitive salary and an attractive start-up package are available. The candidate will be expected to apply for extramural support from national/provincial agencies to sustain their research program and support of graduate students.

The Department has an established expertise in statistical research and is enthusiastically developing links with the biomedical research groups in the Faculty of Science, the Cumming School of Medicine and the Faculty of Veterinarian Medicine at the University and surrounding community. Increasing scholarly capacity will help the University of Calgary meets its renewed Eyes High goals.
