Who & Why

The speculative client for Self Made is American Apparel. A american clothing manufacturer who positions itself in selling quality American made products  through ethical business practices. They
take pride in showcasing their clothing through using real people without makeup not models.

How

We wanted to take this idea of not using professional models and explore it into a platform that creates a new way for consumers to discover fashion culture through people just like them. We found opportunity within the idea of Invoking self expression with transparent behaviours. Creating opportunity for consumers to share their personality and individuality within a social context. Create genuine personalized engagements between consumers and American Apparel.

Emergent Filter

Inspired by Music discovery services such as Rdio and Songza we looked into filtering systems that focus around context and more unique options. Rdio for example filters music around how you are feeling with what you are listening to; feeling adventurous or want to continue listening to music that is very similar. With Songza its what you are currently doing.

For Self Made we simply used two filters; “Who You Are” how do you describe yourself and “What You Love” as in what you love to do. Allowing consumers to search for clothing and how people are sporting clothing you are shopping for in your favourite contexts.

Personal Contribution

For Self Made I was the user experience specialist and technologists as well as one of the team leads. Ensuring our team of five students were constantly on track with what was needed and team resources were thoughtfully distributed where it fit best. I was also responsible for developing the overall core user flow wire framing the screen layout and ideal visuals and assisting the primary Visual Designers in bringing to life. Once our visual designers completed high fidelity mockups I bought it into Axure to develop the working prototype.
