YV
for City of Vancouver
YV is a
Public Utility Concept
YV is a water fountain concept for the City of Vancouver. Designed to facilitate engagement through Archetypal Form.
Who & Why
YV was designed to facilitate a greater public engagement with city utilities to take advantage of the rich natural resource we have that is fresh water. Ideally encouraging the 23% of Vancouver residents who’s primary source of water is disposable bottles. This project is also our contribution to Vancouver Greenest City: 2020 Action Plan
Design Position and Approach
Our approach with our water fountain YV was to embrace Ludic design principles to create a playful form that feels organic, full of energy and is inviting. Reshape Vancouverite’s perception of water quality in our fountains through form and intuitive familiar interaction. Provide more value to fountains and give reason to interact and take advantage of this valuable resource.
Personal Contribution
My contribution to YV varied week to week in the month long conception. I was primarily responsible for presentations (Slide Decks and Speaking itself) and helping bring the form throughout the weeks from sketches on paper into 3D digital formats in Autodesk Maya. The files would then be 3D printed with a Stratasys Fortus 250mc and CNC milled through a local prop maker out of Expanded Polystyrene Foam.
