Marks are based on:
a) Projects
-a demonstration of understanding regarding the formal, conceptual, issues
and connotations of the projects which the student proposes.
-the originality and vitality of the work/ideas/commitment
-the coherence of the art work, does it make sense (even on terms which
it itself suggests) pose interesting questions, take the viewer and context
into consideration, etc.
-has the student ≥followed through≤ in relation to the materials
and the conceptual development of the work
- is there an appropriate level of material or other ≥finish≤
to the work, i.e. professional presentation (in keeping with the nature
of the work)
-is there a good level of self-challenge in relation to previous work,
-has understanding of the artwork in relation to contemporary art
practice and art history been demonstrated
-Comprehension
and timely completion of class projects
-preparedness
and good use of meetings with instructor
b) downloading the correct form and writing a well articulated grant/project
proposal, to be discussed in class
c) an inquiry into the ways in which you work, this is not necessarily
a "sketch book" but a self-observation which should be approached
creatively. The work is evaluated on how insightfully you ask what your
received models for "ways" of working (i.e. like a student,
like a researcher, like a experimental scientist, like a labourer, etc.)
Other, alternate ways of working may also be proposed, explored.
d) A presentation of drawings, models, sketches, mock-ups or other format
appropriate to your work. The ability to succinctly articulate (with
words and materials) a project which is under development.
e) an informed, engaged, considered participation in studio critiaque
f) a demonstration of good work habits, good use of studio time and consideration
of the classroom environment
Attendance and punctuality are very important. If you must miss class
please speak to me about your absence. If you do miss a class it is your
responsibility to find out what you have missed. Several missed classes,
or late attendance, even for a "good reason"
are likely to result in a lower grade. If you must miss classes for medical
reasons (supported by a doctor's note) make up/catch up work should be
discussed with me.
Students are expected to come to the studio prepared to work. Students
will not be excused to go out shooting video or other off site activities.
