Background
Information -
-
>> We all heard of the term “Mad Hatter” from Alice in Wonderland. Some hatters did indeed go mad, developed hallucinations and other psychotic symptoms, due to the exposure to poisonous mercury vapor.
-
Around the 1600s, hats made from beaver felt became extremely popular and fashionable. Everybody wanted one! However, because of this rising demand for beaver felt, European beavers were becoming extinct in Europe. Therefore, in order to meet the overwhelming demands of the fur in Europe, we must expand and search for fur elsewhere.
-
Recent news from merchants in St. Malo, France suggest that there is an abundant supply of beavers in North America and the local natives are more than eager to trade for tools. With this welcoming news and the mapping of the land the waterways of the New World by Martin Frobisher and Henry Hudson, we can finally establish settlements and trade routes.
