Transition type: Subject-to-Subject

(2nd to 3rd panel) The two characters are discussing a potential sound and are cut off mid-sentence, signaling the transition to the next panel. An explosion presumably occurs and we assume that, although the subjects are different, the two panels are linked together with the same idea.

This subject-to-subject transition puts a heavy emphasis on the viewer to correlate the idea that the characters were caught in the explosion. The use of an interrupted sentence also aids in signaling the end of the 2nd panel and guiding the viewer to the next one. Again, this style of transition allows the viewer to use their own interpretation to play out what happened in between the 'gutter' of the two panels, but more so than other transition types since there is no inherent explanation.
