Researching marine community and behavioural ecology within sea ice habitats in the Canadian arctic during winter. Extensive logistical planning and collaboration with Sanikiluaq Hunters and Trappers Association. Designed and operated unique under water/sea-ice remote controlled video set up. Capture, radio telemetry & DCC logging of Common Eiders at polynyas. Aerial surveys over sea ice habitats. Digital benthic photography and grab sampling. Development & programming of event recording software, dynamic modelling and programming. Climate change modelling. Time Series Analysis. Sea Ice and Polar Bear safety. Worked directly with Inuit hunters on the sea ice in each winter and spent a four month internship with community in 2007developing a community based monitoring program and education and outreach.

The Common Eider: Diving under the Sea Ice 2002 Filmed and produced a short underwater sequence of diving eider ducks during winter in the arctic. Designed and operated a unique sea ice mounted underwater camera rig that allowed following eiders through complete dive cycles where they foraged on mussels and urchins under the sea ice in Hudson Bay. Used in extensive education and outreach efforts (Canadian Wildlife Service, Centre for Wildlife Ecology, Simon Fraser University, Bamfield Marine Siences Center, Netherlands Institute for Fisheries Research, Alaska Ocean and Islands Center, etc.), publised permanently online and cited as an introduction to a textbook (Foraging: behaviour and ecology Stephens et al. 2007).
