This individual project was to create an app icon for the course IAT 102 - Graphic Design. This course teaches the fundamental skills of graphic design. The learning objective of this project was to practice graphic design process and principles. My role in this project was to ideate and create an app icon that allows you to see into the past.

The process started with creating a mind map of ideas that I thought of, and later drew multiple representations for the app icon. I later cut down to various choices, with finally narrowing it down to the final prototype. I started with a rough draft and started to get more detailed increasing the preciseness. I made adjustments and finally came up with the final design.

 Throughout the process I encountered the problem of the icon not representing the purpose of “looking back into the past”. To resolve this problem, I implemented an arrow in the design to represent “looking back”.

The final project turned out well but with problems with scalability. I would have made the icon not as detailed to help with the scalability. The app icon designed met the objectives of my improvement of design process and principles. Through this project, I learned the importance of the design principles such as contrast in the black and white on the icon and the use balance in the elements of the design.
