Introduction (cont’) MPLS and Quality of Service
Differentiated Services:
- Class-based QoS.
- It involves marking each packet with a tag (Differentiated Service Code Point – DSCP) indicating the requested QoS treatment on a per-hop basis.
- Pro and Con:
- Pro: QoS is based on the tag assigned to each packet and is done at the packet level instead of the traffic-flow level.
- Con: The tag overwrites the original priority value assigned by the packet sender.
