First In First Out (FIFO)

• Algorithm:

  • First packet in is first packet out, others queued behind (supermarket technique).

• Advantages:

  • Works well if there is no congestion.

• Disadvantages:

  • Unfair
  • Aggressive flows steal 100% of available bandwidth.
  • No immunity from other flows.
  • Impossible to guarantee bandwidth and delay.
