Conclusions
We developed the first public SIP-based Internet Telephony system using SCTP.
In single session environment, a SIP system using SCTP has longer transaction response time than that using UDP because of the additional SCTP control messages required for handshaking.
In multiple session and lossy environment (packet loss rate > 10%), SIP system using SCTP performs better than that using UDP because of the congestion control and the multi-streaming features in SCTP.
