please contact Lisa Shapiro at [lshapiro at sfu dot ca]. Here are two suggestions:
The Sylvia Hotel (about a 45 min
walk (a pleasant walk) to SFU Harbour Centre, with a great view of English
Bay and near Stanley Park)
YWCA Hotel (about a 10 minute walk
to SFU Harbour Centre, at the edge of downtown near the stadiums)
Transportation
From the Airport:Getting to the hotel from the airport should be
straightforward. Airporter buses run regularly and cost $13.50 OW or $21 RT.
More information can be found at www.yvrairporter.com.
Alternatively, a taxi from the airport should cost about $30.
To SFU Burnaby: The Friday session will be held up on Burnaby Mountain at the main campus of SFU where the Philosophy Department is located. The most economical way to get there is by bus (about 45 minutes). The 135 runs directly up Hastings Street to SFU, and can be caught at Hastings St and Richards (right by SFU Harbour Centre -- see directions below). If you would rather not walk to Harbour Centre, you can take the #5 bus North (towards the mountains) on Seymour (at Robson) and transfer at Hastings. Schedules can be found here.
Alternatively, people might coordinate sharing some cabs, or those who might have a car could offer rides. If you would be interested in sharing a cab up to SFU please contact Lisa Shapiro at [lshapiro at sfu dot ca].
To SFU Harbour Centre: The easiest route to
Harbour Centre where the workshop is:
Head West on Robson (turn left at the intersection of Hamilton and Robson).
Turn right (north) on Richards. Follow Richards to Hastings St. SFU Harbour
Centre is on Hastings, on the north side of the street, between Seymour and
Richards.
Here is a map
of the downtown area near the hotel.
