Course outline - BUEC 333, Summer 1999 - D. Maki Description: The topics covered will include hypothesis testing, regression and correlation analysis, multiple regression, time series and index numbers. Required Texts: Paul Newbold, Statistics for Business and Economics, 4th Ed., Prentice-Hall, 1995. Michael Middleton, Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel, latest edition, Duxbury. Grading: Midterm Examination 20% Final Examination 50% Project 25% Tutorial 5% If the final examination grade is better than the midterm grade (relative to the mean), the midterm grade will be ignored and the final will count for 70%. The midterm will be multiple choice, the final will be a mixture of multiple choice and problem-type questions. Course Requirements: Problem sets will be assigned most weeks. Everyone is required to complete a project which involves statistical analysis of data using techniques covered in the course. A four to five page summary report will be turned in for grading, together with relevant computer output. The project and some of the weekly assignments will involve use of the EXCEL computer program. Tutorials will not meet during the first week of classes.
